Why Regular Hygiene Visits Matter

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Regular professional cleaning prevents gum disease, reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes complications, and keeps your breath fresh.

🦠

Removes Tartar

Tartar (calculus) cannot be removed by brushing alone. Professional scaling removes hardened deposits from above and below the gumline.

❤️

Protects Overall Health

Research links gum disease to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and premature birth. Healthy gums mean a healthier body.

💨

Fresher Breath

Bad breath is often caused by bacteria in plaque and tartar. A professional clean eliminates the source of odour-causing bacteria.

Brighter Smile

Polishing removes surface stains from tea, coffee, and wine, leaving your teeth noticeably cleaner and brighter.

What Happens During Your Hygiene Appointment

1

Gum Health Assessment

Your hygienist will measure the depth of the pockets around each tooth using a fine probe. This painless assessment identifies any signs of gum disease (gingivitis or periodontitis) and guides the treatment plan.

2

Ultrasonic Scaling

Using a state-of-the-art ultrasonic scaler, we remove hardened tartar and calculus from all tooth surfaces, including below the gumline. The ultrasonic vibrations break up deposits gently and effectively.

3

Hand Scaling & Root Planing

For patients with deeper pockets or active gum disease, hand instruments are used to carefully clean the root surfaces, removing bacterial deposits and smoothing the root to discourage future plaque attachment.

4

Airflow Polishing

We use an Airflow system that projects a fine jet of water, air, and powder to remove staining and biofilm from tooth surfaces and between teeth — a comfortable and highly effective alternative to traditional polishing.

5

Personalised Oral Hygiene Instruction

Your hygienist will demonstrate the most effective brushing and interdental cleaning techniques tailored to your mouth. We’ll recommend the right products — electric toothbrushes, interdental brushes, floss, and mouthwash — for your specific needs.
