What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Once the implant integrates with the bone (a process called osseointegration), a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture is attached on top. The result is a permanent, stable, and natural-looking tooth replacement.

The Implant Treatment Process
Comprehensive Consultation & Planning
We take detailed X-rays and a CBCT (cone beam CT) scan to assess your bone volume, density, and the position of nerves and sinuses. A full treatment plan is created, including any preparatory work such as bone grafting or tooth extractions.
Preparatory Procedures (if needed)
Some patients require bone grafting to build up insufficient bone volume, or a sinus lift if the upper back jaw has insufficient height. These procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic and require a healing period before implant placement.
Implant Placement Surgery
Under local anaesthetic (sedation available), a small incision is made in the gum and the titanium implant is precisely placed into the jawbone. The gum is sutured closed and a healing cap is placed. Most patients report minimal discomfort, comparable to a tooth extraction.
Osseointegration (Healing Period)
Over the next 3–6 months, the implant fuses with the surrounding bone in a process called osseointegration. During this time, a temporary tooth can be provided so you’re never without a tooth.
Abutment Placement
Once the implant has integrated, a small connector piece called an abutment is attached to the implant. This forms the foundation for your final crown, bridge, or denture.
Final Crown Fitting
A custom-made porcelain crown is crafted to match the colour, shape, and size of your surrounding teeth. It is permanently fixed to the abutment, completing your new tooth. The result is indistinguishable from a natural tooth.
